Susan Burns

Susan Burns has been photographing horses as a passionate hobby for over 16 years. She is a graduate of the Art Institute in Chicago and the Students’ Art League in New York City but is largely self-taught, having traveled the world capturing images of horses, African wildlife and indigenous cultures.

Her latest venture is a partnership with acclaimed photographer and workshop teacher, Bobbie Goodrich. Their new company, THE WEST, REDEFINED… leads photo/post-production tours to exclusive ranches in the West, exciting international destinations like Zambia and the Camargue, and their beautiful “Out of Santa Fe” studios in Santa Fe, NM.

Susan’s other passion is Africa, particularly Zambia, where she has traveled extensively as a Board Member of Direct Impact Africa, a private foundation whose goal is to help fund and create community-run cooperatives and models for sustainable enterprises. MORE DETAILS ON DIRECT IMPACT AFRICA (SEE ZAMBIA)

Her work has been recognized through various publications like Photographer’s Forum, Equine Photographer Network and the prestigious Spider Awards, but it is largely through private commission assignments where her work is displayed. Those include the Four Seasons Hotels, Explore Africa and archival work on exclusive private ranches throughout the West.

Lori Lause

Lori Lause is the trip leader for Jim Steinberg’s photography workshops and will make sure that your experience combines the very best photographic instruction with an exciting and active holiday. Lori has spent years in the travel business, from managing major hotels in Chicago to owning her own travel agency, and has lead numerous photographic workshops with nationally-known photographers throughout the United States. She is also an avid photographer who specializes in black & white street photography and environmental portraiture while exploring other creative photographic techniques such as the use of infrared photography to capture moody landscapes. Lori works with a variety of Nikon cameras, flashes and lenses to capture her images and a combination of Aperture, Photoshop and NIK Software to help bring them to life.

Lori Lause is a recovering Chicagoan currently banished to Scottsdale, Arizona, and wears many hats during our photographic workshops: directionally challenged navigator; schlepper and sherpa; chatty cabbie; therapist, analyst and alchemist; intergalactic guide and gadabout; peripatetic paparazzo and purveyor of potent potables; goat whisperer and scorpion wrangler; and facilitator, mediator and percolator.
