Barbara and Lewis Hollweg have been on safari with EXPLORE 10 times over the last few years and during that time Barbara has become an insatiable photographer. Four years ago, she read an article about Camptraptions and their latest creation, the BeetleCam, an armored remote controlled buggy for your camera that is ideal for those who love to capture close up encounters without intruding… or being eaten!

At the time the contraption was still in its initial stages of development by London-based wildlife photographer, Will Burrard-Lucas, but Barbara knew she would add it to her safari packing list one day. This past March, Barbara tested out her new BeetleCam on game drives at Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau & Lewa Wildlife Conservancy while staying at Borana & Sirikoi Lodge. This hummer type capsule for her camera allowed Barbara & Lewis to get up close and personal with African wildlife by remotely “driving” it into a pride of lions without fear of damage to the camera from an unfortunate swipe of a paw. Barbara’s vying over a BeetleCam for all of these years paid off as these images are amazing. Thank you for sharing Barbara!
